The door dedicated to the Virgin Mary is entitled Porta Santa Maria in Lucca
Part of the Walls built by Michelangelo Gabrielli designed by Architect Ginese Bresciani
between 1549 and 1592
A statue can be seen on the outside of the door dedicated to the virgin Mary marble
Originally it presented with a single opening and after two doors are opened on which
you will find the symbol of the city “The Panther”
Under the central Arch you can see the Archangen Gabriel and the Madonna with
the Annunciation
In the centre of the facade you can see a marble statue of St.Peter with the
city’s Motto “Libertas”
