Symbol of the city of Lucca: The Holy Face

The Holy Face is a wooden crucifix kept in the little temple of the San Martino Cathedral in Lucca

It seems thanks scientific checks it is the oldest sculpture in the west

The Face represents Christ dressed by  tunic lying on 247 cm high walnut crucifix

It is really an ancient work with 1200 years

Protection and symbol of the city is exposed to the whole city in the procession of Santa Croce

an event every year on 13th and 14th September
